>>32488353well, in gen 1, partially due to cartridge space issues, all trainer 'mons, aside from a very select number of trainers and then even only their trump 'mon, had their moves assigned by a level up algorithm
however it leads to some bad things, as all 'mons that evolve through evolution stones have a very limited number of moves in their final form.
in this example a growlithe lv 61 would have had the moves Leer, Take Down, Agility and Flamethrower which would have been a very reasonable moveset
exxegcute would have had stun spore, poison powder, solar beam and sleep powder, not exactly the best but still better due to gen 1 sleep mechanics.
Rhydon's level is a bit unfortunate as he is one of the few gen 1 pokemon with high level moves, lv 64 would have seen tail whip replaced with take down
still no actual rock or ground moves but its a begin (in gen 1 the only rock move learned through level up is rock throw, go figure)
Bastoise is the only pokemon in that picture with a custom moveset, skull bash was replaced with the non-level up move blizzard (best of the 3 replacements)
charizard has flamethrower replaced with fire blast (okay given gen 1 mechanics)
and venusaur has sleep powder replaced with mega drain (which actually constitutes as a downright nerf)
