The gameplay is slow and cluncky as fuck, the concept of level design is not a thing in them, everything looks boring and there's nothing fun to explore, you're forced to use a NFE, the team you can make is smaller and so on. There's not a single place, not a single thing where PMD exceed the main series. Even the music shit most of the time, compared to the main series.
And the stories are overrated as fuck. I won't say they're bad. They're not. They're far better than anything the main series had, before SM. But they're still no masterpiece. The pacing is especially SHIT, and most of the characters are just kind of boring. Especially in everything pre-3DS. But because they MUH TRAGIC AND SAD STORIES, faggots treat them as the ultimate form of story. You know, to act like faggots who "deep and refined taste" because they like this type of story. And even that is no longer a PMD thing. You can't even compare any PMD story to SM's. The level of detail is different that PMD looks just cute in front of it.
