Bullshit. I remember bad fanfiction, Japanese fans shipping Ash x Gary, traced fanart from the west, Team Rocket fanwanking (most of it was James fangirls), a site dedicated to how Pokemon poop would look and "all growed up" fanfiction that was either edgy as fuck or discredited by hindsight.
Modern fandom is more of a digest lately but there's far less bullshit in terms of finding what you want. Fanart? dA, Tumblr and Pixiv exists, whether you want stuff from the show or games. Fanfiction? Sure, but now you have more options. News? Check out one of the top Pokemon fansites. Episode summaries? Ditto on that. Walkthroughs? You betcha.
Seems like most of the problem the person that made this image has with the fanbases is simply anyone who argues against their nostalgia bubble as if the ones on the receiving end's job is to sit and nod without question. We get it, Pokemon isn't what they thought it should be and people don't remember or envision it the exact same way they do and want to come up with special reasons why the current fanbase think as they do. In the end, you're just arguing about the direction of a cash cow and just because you didn't see it when you were a kid doesn't mean it wasn't. Ask your parents about how much they enjoyed spending money on Pokemon shit when you were a kid if you don't believe me.
If the pic author's problem is with all the sexualization and shit, I don't think it's that much of a change to be honest. Fans of the old days got older, hornier and are living out unfulfilled childhood faps now that things can be manifested easier from more than just reading a fanfic and relying on imagination to fill the gap.
Best advice I can give is learn to tune it out, because it's not going away.
Oh and if you're going to complain about how "that kid" stories no longer happen because they've been ruined by the internet and dataminers, go fuck a cactus.
