Here is why I love Hoenn. The whole region feels connect and not all separated like Kalos or Alola. ORAS even removed the one gate it did have making it all fit together better.
There are also so many cool places to discover. Sure there is a lot of water, but that water leads to so many interesting things. Like the Regis, the Abandoned Ship, or Mirage Island. It's all so fun to explore. Even non side areas are great like Meteor Falls and Fortree City.
It has so many unique and distinctive locations, and so many interesting ideas around those areas like soot collecting for example. It's really such a magical place.
