>>32609389Good OU player here, how I build a team is like this:
1. Find a Pokemon you WANT to use, doesn't matter if it's not currently in OU.
2. Find a Pokemon that can punish most if not all Pokemon that try and answer the Pokemon desired for Step 1.
3. Create a core of 3 Pokemon that can cover most threats in the meta, either offensively, defensively, or as a pivot.
4. Fit a hazard manager on the team.
5. Playtest to see what's not working, and replace moves, items, or even mons if they're not pulling their weight with something you realize you need to plug holes.
Step 3 can overlap with Step 4 or even Steps 1 and 2, but I feel like you're motivated to succeed when you're using something you want to use. FWG cores are usually reliable, but you're definitely going to want a Steel type, something that can handle Volt Turn, and a Fire resist that's not weak to Grass. Haze is a good idea for handling Baton Pass, and it's good to have a stallbreaker on the team for (obviously) stall.
