Is gen one pandering the ultimate meme? Complaining about the abundance of Gen 1 representation in the games is kinda like complaining that goombas are in the new mario game, but they left scuttlebugs out.
Why wouldn't the game that started it all get the most recognition?

Mario and Pokémon are two different franchises and the problem is that on previous Gens they tried to make Pokémon introduced in those Gens the center of attention to make at least 10 Pokémon to be recognized while ensuring Pokémon from older Gens to also not be forgotten, but starting XY they dropped it completely and pander to Gen 1 because either they became nostalgiafags or try to make old fans to return to the franchise.

Anyways that massive Gen 1 pandering made the starters and Talonflame the least forgettable Pokémon from Gen 6 (excluding Legendaries because they are always popular). If you didn't know there are people that forgot that Bunnelby line, Scatterbug line, Inkay line, Pumpkaboo line, Bergmite line exist, only to mention a bit.

Yes you did. You said that they're paying far more attention to gen I in the newer games than any of the other titles. You might not want to use the word pandering, but it is definitely catering to the fans of gen I.

I actually think Mario games rely too much on nostalgia pandering in general, they never let you forgot those old sprites and the NSMB series looks afraid to innovate, despite the original series revamping its style in every game

Kill yourself. I started with kanto and been playing kanto and its remakes ever since. Hence why I think Unova did the throwback best since it actually bothered to change a lot of things while still invoking the sense of NEW adventure
