Does anyone know why these learn Psychic attacks by levelup? Sabrina even uses Venomoth in Gen I. I don't understand the connection.

You need to level up Butterfree to 12 in RGB if you want it to learn Confusion though. Yellow carried over the moveset from GS so that's why it learns Confusion at lv10, immediately after evolving.

You couldn't get a Mankey in the original RB and if you used Butterfree against Brock in the remakes you got fucked by that x4 weakness to Rock Throw. Nidoran was always the superior choice which is why I've refused to play the remakes since I found out the Nidos have been removed from the pre-Brock areas

The only other Bug moves in gen 1 were String shot and Leech life, the latter only being learned by Zubat/Golbat, Paras/Parasect and Venonat/Venomoth and it was shit until this gen anyway

Why not Yellow? Red, Green, Blue, and Japanese Yellow play in Game Boy mode whereas non-Japanese Yellow plays in Game Boy Color mode.

Beedrill was pretty bottom barrel, saved only by the fact that twinneedle was the only realistic way to hit psychics SEtively besides jolteon's pin missile

It's because of mothra. Pokemon has always been Kaiju for kids and has plenty of references to Toho. Every butterfly/moth pokemon has some connection to mothra. My personal favorite is the shout out to Baragon I'm the form of the Nido line.
