>>32640868It doesn't matter what people pick first. It can help them like it, but it won't necessarily be their favorite. My first Pokemon was a Pikachu. I hate Pikachu. Even if everyone picked Zard first, it doesn't matter. What matters is what they liked.
As for those results, they're quite easily explainable. All Kanto starters are loved, while many hate Chesnaught. Despite being uglier, Venusaur is still leagues above Chesnaught in popularity. In the poll that Greninja came first in, Chesnaught was literally the last in all fully evolved starters, coming in at around 250th place. Even behind Meganium by 30 Pokemon. Which helps Greninja. Because its competition is worse, it helps Greninja shine brighter.
I consider myself a fairly big Chesnaughtfag. I love the Pokemon, it's my second my favorite Grass-type. But if I had to decide between Greninja and Chesnaught, I too would give my vote to Greninja.
