>>32655186Sun was my first nuzlocke and I did it day 1 knowing nothing about the game, so I can relate with some tips.
Like in XY, your very first encounter is fixed. On Route 1, your first encounter will always be a Pikipek with a 100 percent catch rate. Either catch it for consistency or run/faint it so you actually get a random pokemon(you may get something worse like Ledyba, though). Also, the area by Kukui's house south of your house is still Route 1 and does not count as a new encounter, though Pinwheel Forest clause may apply. Rockruff can only be found in ten carat hill and it's rare, so you're almost guaranteed not to have one. The shaking grass that approaches you on the route past Hau'oli is guaranteed to have a Makuhita. Also, Hau'oli city has grass past the fences, so get an encounter there before facing Ilima.
Watch out for the Bonsly in the school if you pick Litten. Watch out for the Grimer the last school trainer uses if you picked Rowlet. Watch out for the teacher's Magnemite if you picked Popplio.
Also, most importantly, watch out for Ilima. His Yungoos hits hard and his Smeargle knows ember/water gun/leafage(only the one that beats your starter, not all three). Your starter straight up will struggle against Smeargle, so you should keep your encounters somewhat evenly leveled with starter to fall back on, even if you don't plan on using them. I nearly wiped at him and so did this man.
