They got it right with Black 2/White 2. I'm not motivated to play the same thing over again for some minor differences that on the whole aren't big enough to justify a new game. However, they changed enough in B2W2 to justify it. New areas, changed areas, new characters, returning characters who are now different, a new asinine plot to deal with. But in the same region. This is enough to warrant me to buy another game where we return to a region.
The quick glimpse of USM and the phrase "alternate story" indicates they're going the way of Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum. I pray it's drastically different. That's justifiable. It needs to be vastly different.
If not, it's just another day at the office for Game Freak. Half a step forward, three steps back.
