Yes. IIRC, HGSS shipped less copies than usual because of the pokewalker. It's currenntly the hardest to find mainline game.

From the amount of people that talk about losing their Pokéwalker in a matter of days/hours, I suppose so. I still have mine but it ran out of juice and since I didn't bother changing its battery last time I played SS. I don't leave my house all that often anymore.
