When you add rules then you start seeing which gym leaders still remain easy as fuck and which start becoming a challenge.
Personally I think the normal nuzlocke rules and battle style set are a must if you want to have an enjoyable experience with the main Pokemon games, and no healing during battle and preventing your mons from overleveling become musts too once you realize how easily exploitable those mechanics are even in nuzlockes.
