The pinnacle of the series was the GBA and DS eras. Generation V is just an expansion of the major improvements made by Generations III and IV.

Generation III overhauled the whole structure of the game, so much that a Pokémon created in Generation III is easily migrated to Generations IV, V, VI, VII, and soon VIII without significant changes.

B/W was a real gem of a game. It's just a shame that the region lock soured away the more traditionalist players and kept them from giving it the chance it deserved.
