i think the idea of a big dex was a good idea, but i think Kalos was a bit small for it, eitherway i think it was a good idea, it makes the regions feel more alive
Kalos had tons of shitmons on the dex, but those shitmons maked the region feel more alive.
Of course, the new pokemon should have higher enconter rates that they had in XY.
