So many people left the series when gen 2 was left incompatible, no way they'll do that again when there's 802 Pokemon and all of the games (except Crystal) are finally compatible with each other.

No, because those are mainline games. Pokemon GO doesn't even have battles and is bare bones even for a Pokemon game. I'd sooner believe compatibility with Mystery Dungeon than this.

Issue is that the Bank is Pokemon exclusive while the Switch online service is universal. I doubt Nintendo would give Gamefreak a cut alone and no other developer for their maintenance on Pokemon Bank unless it gets merged with Nintendo's own servers.

Anon, there's already data in SM for Pokemon originating from GO, there's just no way to actually transfer them yet. They were probably saving it for USUM and put the data in there so you could trade the GO mons back to SM.

Anon, the whole point of bank was to make a universal permanent transfer method so they don't have to bother with hardware gimmicks and such. All they have to do is write an app that contacts the server, as long as the internet and cloud servers remain a thing, Bank will be the transfer method from now on.
