The guy in charge of TPC literally said that Gamefreak is working on a Core RPG Pokemon for the Switch. Gamefreak has only made mainline games.

It's a mainline game. Whether it's Gen 8 or a reremake of Kanto is yet to be seen.

I'm pretty sure "core RPG" is just the not fan jargon way of saying main line game. The fact that they showed nothing makes me think it is in fact the next gen, since teasing the next generation with even a title could hinder interest in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.

gen V was the most polarizing gen by a mile , there was no middle ground either you hated it or they were your favorites.

Mechanically it was better than every other entry but it suffered with the "only new pokemon available"

No, it was the Unova dex. I think Gen V is some of the best content to ever grace the series, but I remember before it dropped and after it dropped people were highly disillusioned with its Pokedex. You can actually argue that B/W almost killed Pokemon.
