I saw a thread making fun of this fakemon, but didn't really see any more criticism other than it being ugly. What's so bad about it? I honestly have no clue.

Pretty much because it looks like a furry. Give it a slight redesign, one that includes making the tuft up there look less like human hair, that's a start.
