I didn't really have anything amazing, but it still feels bad.

Do it, buy a subscription to bank for like $3, then you can just wipe your save every time you want to replay the game

I ended up using my powersaves to backup my moon save to the computer so I could replay it. I didn't want to do that because the last time I did was with OR, but my computer fucked up and I lost my gen 2 and gen 5 HA starters but I caved. Really wish I had put those starters on the bank because now I wanted to breed for a good Totodile but I only found out two days ago I lost all those starters

Can't you use JK's save manager to backup your savefile?
I think you can use this tool even if you haven't hacked your 3ds

Step 3: Start a new game, and if you want to play the old file again just back up said new save and import the old one again.
