XY was advertised a lot, and got more people into Pokemon. And since they were on Disney XD/Cartoon Network or whatever it was on it means more children, simple.

I think a lot of it has to do with the tone and format of XY/XYZ being so different. Despite being the odd man out, resembling a battle shounen more than the other seasons, the fans came to expect this of the anime as a whole, which unfortunately isn't how it usually works.

That and the shippers are the most obnoxious part of any fanbase, and XY has the most.

Is pretty cringey but works.
Ash is "bad ass", the season is full of colorful battles and edgyness, kids like this kind of things. The fanbase is shit because kids and manchildren.
As an adult i enjoy much more SM.

I personally know dozens of people that followed the series online until the league fiasco. Last i heard, it's been the only recent Pokemon season that spics followed religiously too. Of course there's less people overall watching TV, so the ratings point is nearly null.

Yeah, ever since BW (and DP to a smaller extent) they've been giving every season a wildly different tone. I personally prefer this over shit like Hoenn and Johto melding into each other.

XY has nowhere near the largest fanbase of the sagas, but it might have the most dedicated one behind the original series for the same reason, shipping shit. Amourshipping is literally nu-pokeshipping for people that weren't old enough to follow the anime back during that time.

I did reach that mark eventually, but I was pretty much forcing myself to watch at that point. Has some cool action but painfully boring and bland for the most part.

The Ash/Serena thing was an actual recurring subplot, unlike Ash/Misty. Amour was really a ratings draw that didn't result in anything but an off screen kiss that means nothing for the future.
