They have a very big franchise over their head one wrong move and everything can go sideways and fans can get upset just like what happened recently. With breath of the Wild the developers took their time with the game and scored 3m sells with it knowing that they took their time with the game to please the fans and actually make a good game, just look at the metacritic score.
