It literally stops both ashfrog and proteinfrog on their tracks unless they happen to carry grass knot, which gastrodon can still survive one of and get the fuck out of there. It is rare for them to carry it anymore though.
Everything else that isn't water STAB (dark pulse, extrasensory, ice beam, gunk shot) cannot kill gastrodon. Only hax (dark pulse flinch, ice beam freeze) allows the frogs to win 1vs1.
