Ever since Gen 4, Ash's clothes have been heavily based on the male protagonist in the respective games.

But is the anime really just copying the games, or does Game Freak intentionally design the male protagonists based on how their outfits would look on Ash?

I'm inclined to believe it's the latter, as since Gen 4, they've all been Red clones wearing some combination of red/blue/black.
