Shellos and Gastrodon were originally planned to debut in Gen 3 instead of Gen 4, and there's also this beta design for Gastrodon

I think it refers to a team of Alolan researchers, looking for the West Sea form, since the East Sea form is the only one found in Alola. Interestingly, the West Sea form is the only form found in Kalos...

Not

And we know that Alola trades and imports mons from other regions and aren't 100% isolationist thanks to Rotomdex (among other things) so it strikes me as highly unlikely that they're just searching for the other form that everyone else knows about already.

It's pretty ridiculous that Alola didn't get its own color of Gastrodon. You have a Pokemon that looks different on just two sides of the same region yet it looks the same in another country?

Mt. Coronet is are the marker for Shellos line, imagine Hokkaido, the real-life region of Japan Sinnoh is based off of, at the center of a world map

Only East Gastrodon appears in Kalos because France would be on the east side of the map, and only West Gastrodon appears in Alola because Hawaii would be on the west side
