The idea is that there is no year where there is both no event and no new gen. Its highly unlikely we'd get the first gen 8 eventmon in 2018, but that's fine because we'd get gen 8 itself.

Celebi and Lucario don't really count.

They intended to have D/P out in 2005 but they got pushed back to 2006. It was literally a new Pokémon to debut a new game which then got pushed back.

Same goes for 2010 - Zoroark introduced in the movie shortly before the games released.

Will they maybe take until 2019? sure, but the pattern says a new Pokémon - whether it's an event Pokémon or not - will debut and so too will the next Gen, next year.

If they had done something with Marshadow and THEN did the anime reboot movie next year to give out ACP separately, I could see skipping a reveal next year, but that's not what they did.

Don't believe for a second thaty development only just started on Gen 8. As someone who works for a game development company I can pretty much guarantee you development in some form for them started before S/M even released. Even if it was just an idea and playing around with the code time.

We've know gen 8 was in development sinec september though. Plus, nintendo would obviously give gamefreak the switch SDK first, so it was probably in development even before 2016. The switch sdk leak said copyright 2015 so pokemon switch probably started development around that time.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear they started designing even before 2016. Perhaps even as soon as ORAS finished development, and that's why Ohmori was given SM, so Masuda could focus on gen 8.

But yes, its impossible to make a game like Pokemon in 1-2 years. Its just not how game dev works.

I wouldn't say EXACTLY by May 2018, but definitely those stages of development from the job listings. GF still continues to work on a game throughout a pre release season year. Agree on a late 2018 release though

If the next core Pokemon game is on the Switch, will they break tradition and only have one version to introduce the new gen? Surely they dont plan on releasing two full price 60$ console games, let a alone have one version be on the 3DS and the other on the Switch.

For Gen 8, I predict that there won't be a major new battle gimmick like Mega Evolution or Z-Moves. They have to cool down to conserve their other ideas for later.

That gimmick will replaced by something simpler. It's being the first core Pokemon games on home consoles in high definition.

Dude, there's probably half of the GEN VIII dex done in this moment.

Also GEN VII to GEN VIII woulnt be that big of a jump, they just have to put the models in HD and that's it.

That wouldn't make any since though, considering USUM is obviously the last of Gen 7. Usually new films at the end tease the next set of games/gen. The 2017 movie is this Friday IIRC, and I'm guessing there will be a Pokemon we've never seen before during the end credits.

Gen I - 2 movies (could have been more, but the anime didn't come out until 1997, and the first movie was a year later)
Gen II - 3 movies
Gen III - 4 movies
Gen IV - 4 movies
Gen V - 3 movies
Gen VI - 3 movies
Gen VII - 1 movie so far

Gen IV was a particularly long generation and is the reason there are 4 movies for Gen III. Diamond and Pearl were announced in 2004 and released in 2006, the longest wait for announced games to come out, and thus the final two Gen III movies were promoting Gen IV.

Marshadow is CURRENTLY the final mythical Pokémon, but it's clear that Game Freak cut out #803+ so they could resell them to you in USUM or even whatever the Switch game is.

Hoopa still teased what APPEARED to be a new Pokemon. It still teased something for the next set of games, which all the retards thought was Z at the time. Most of the time the movies do tease new Pokemon for the next gen after it. Hoopa Unbound just so happened to be a Zygarde form. It would just seem more logical to tease a new Pokemon by the end of the movie this Friday. I could care less if it happens or not

Yeah. Not the first time it's happened. Crystal was technically the only Game Boy Color Pokémon game. Gold and Silver are literally Game Boy games with Color enhancement, not that different from Donkey Kong '94 having Super Game Boy enhancement. Patterns mean shit nowadays. Personally I think that gen 8 will be on 2019 and the new mon of the movie will be native on USUM's data and DLC on SM

But, assuming you're talking about the Pokemon that they usually feature centrally in the last movie, I recall the last gen 5 movie pretended it was just a regular Mewtwo at first. Similarly, Magearna wasn't revealed for the Volcanion movie at first either.

With mewtwo was implied that it was a new mon ergo a new gen, and the Volcanion case was something uncalled because Volcanion wasn't still officially revealed, so unless they create a new mon and introduce it on USUM and SM via DLC is likely that they will feature a new gen mon.

What? You mean like HMs being different between games and TM94 being Rock Smash in XY and Secret Power in ORAS?

Also, IVs have existed since the beginning. DVs are pretty much the same thing in concept, except the value is between 0-15 compared to 0-31. That value is still multiplied by 2 to get an increase of 0-30 (no odd numbers).
