Has anybody thought of the possibility that one day Pokebank will become inactive, making the transfer of Pokémon from Gens 3-5 to newer games impossible?

They'll probably just eventually make a system that only allows transfers from VC ports of older games. I'd bet that Gens 1-5 will be released on VC for switch.
