>>32943745These were the most hyped I've ever been for a pokemon game. I only found out about japan getting games before america with platinum teasers, and really got into it with HGSS. I spent the summer at my grandparents' house, dancing to the game's songs uploaded by SexeiAlexy. I desperately wanted to import japanese soulsilver but had no money since I was a kid. I preordered the game at the gamestop near my house, but was leaving for a ski trip upstate the weekend it came out. When I returned, it turned out a snowstorm had knocked out the town's power and the store wouldn't open for another week or so. By the time I finally got around to playing the game, I had a super comfy and cozy springtime set up in my room, and to this day I cannot see a beautiful day without thinking of the first time I fired up heartgold. Crystal was my first pokemon game when I was still basically a toddler, and the experience of seeing all those creatures that I loved for so long walk behind me in such a gorgeous world brought everything to life. I brought the pokewalker to school every day as did my friends, and we'd always compete to get the most steps each day, sometimes not returning at night so that we could get the 9999 max for the best items. My best friend from childhood only used three pokemon, FERAL the feraligatr, RED the shiny gyarados, and FI-ER the ho-oh (I'm not 100% sure I'm remembering the ho-oh's nickname correctly). I used a team of 7 pokemon: Tyler the typhlosion, Bridget the pidgeot, Amy the ampharos, Victor the victreebel, togetic, I think golem, and I forget the 7th. I never managed to beat the pokemon league though. Years later I went back to play soulsilver with actual knowledge of the game, with a much better team: Meganium, Honchkrow, Poliwrath, Gengar, Alakazam, Ampharos. That team beat Red, the first time I ever managed to do it.
This got way off track, but the point is that for me the hype is some of my best memories of pokemon, and the game is too.
