You receive a mysterious package from Gamefreak in the mail. Inside, you find a strange console with two buttons. As well, you find a folded up note with the following instructions.
If you press the red button, Generation VIII will feature no new Pokemon. Further more, the National Pokedex will be reduced to 400 Pokemon, with many redundant, unpopular, or overpowered monsters being cut. However, the remaining Pokemon will all be rebalanced, with every Pokemon having at least a small niche to fill or a good mega evolution. The type chart will also be reworked from the ground up, and no type will be over or underpowered.
If you press the green button, Generation VIII will introduce 200 new Pokemon. It will introduce a new in-battle mechanic that ends up being more balanced that Z-moves or mega evolution. The game will no longer feature extensive cut-scenes, and will return to somewhat non-linear map like Gen I or II. The plot will focus on more local level things, with the villain team being a regional threat that are dealt with before the final gym. One of the previous regions will be explorable once you defeat the elite 4, but you have no idea which one it will be (aside from the fact that it won't be Kanto again). There are no Mythical Pokémon, and everything can be caught or acquired in game (though, version exclusive Pokemon still exist)
Once you press one of the two buttons, the console will vanish, and your choice will be set. The console will also vanish if you take too long to decide, so it would be best to make your choice posthaste.
At the bottom of the note, there's a small warning, telling you to not press both buttons at the same time.
