They should've just made the series like that.
Seasons 1-3 for each gen. The current gen will consists of the protagonists doing what they do in the games to promote them.

I just don't understand why they want the Ashnime to be bad. They could still have a great marketing engine and shit like that if they focused on fleshing out the story, characters and battles out a little more. What fucking skin is it off their nose? They just don't care because the feces they have now works. Pretty much sums up all of society. It's our own fault as consumers that crap like this is allowed.

They have the specials for stuff like that, the main anime's purpose is advertising all the new Pokemon, characters, and features that are in the new games.

It's been doing that job successfully for 20 years now, so they're not going to stop.

No, the only Pokemon Ash gets in the movie are Pikachu, Butterfree (which he releases to mate), and Charizard.

So he ends the movie with only Pikachu and Charizard.

So yes, the idea seems to be that Ash traveled through Kanto, then came to Alola. SM Ash never went to Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, or Kalos. he's only traveled through Kanto prior to SM.
