That is correct. It doesn't copy the targets stat changes. It simply steals any stat boosts.

Lets say "X" target used Curse. +1 atk, +1 def, -1 spe.
Spectral Thief will give Marshadow +1 atk, +1 def, and the speed stat is +/- 0.

Wouldn't work because as those two other anons said, marshadow should be the one having contrary.

In any case, malamar could still technically fuck marshadow up with topsy turvy. If it survives the spectral thief, that is.
