Here's my reasoning:
>Both games criticized for having too many newcomers
>Both games thought of as trying to be a reboot to the series
>Both games criticized for the extremely offensive meta
>Both games put a lot of effort in animated sprites, only to be made obsolete in the next generation

I mean, there were a lot of Pokémon to animate. That's a lot of effort, like the outcome or not.
Plus the 5th gen sprite animations look good and most of them in general look completely fine, bad sprites like Articuno were the exception.
