Every series is connected, although DPP and BW are the most disconnected from the others. You do need to read DP before Platinum, though. It's a direct continuation.

The DP arc is connected to the Platinum arc taking place a few months after the former. Outside of a few references they aren't connected but you should start from the beginning anyway.
