Using a new Pokémon each playthrough is the best way to play. I always use Pokémon I never have before and priorities new Pokémon from that region first.

Who cares during an ingame play through of an generation? Plus using subpar pokemon will add challenge to the game. No need to use the edgiest overcompensation pokemon all the time anon.

i've been trying to complete a challenge i thought of for some time now, doing a playthrough with every pokemon available in a game of it's generation (meaning i have to use all gen 1 pokemon at least once in a run, but it can be in either frlg or rby). Currently done with Hoenn and Kanto

i wouldn't know the exact worst combinations, since i tried to balance things in order to actually enjoy playing, but there are some notable deadweights, things like beedrill, farfetch'd and ditto etc

in gen 1 maybe but he gets slash at level 39, and his speed isn't that great, neither is his attack stat. It is viable, everything is, but its just pretty meh
