There was a breaking point between books 3 and 4 where everything felt a bit more mature, gearing towards more "advanced", if you will, topics to handle. It would be ignorant and perhaps even contrarian, for a lack of a better term, to assume the opposite. I'd like to think of this change of direction was because of character development as a whole. In books 3 and 4 the characters are faced with bigger challenges than before, not only affecting the cast, but people around them, though Marvolo's chamber of secrets was no joke either, thus boosting character growth because of their decisions. Or maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about, it's 1am and too hot to fall asleep
