The word arctic, used to describe cold northern regions, originates from the Greek word for bear. This is because in the cold northern regions of the world, Ursa Major and Ursa Minor (bear-based constellations,) are very prominent in the night sky, and are very useful for ships to navigate by.
So the fact that it's an Ice-type bear makes the end of its name just perfect. And, by coincidence, polar bears are also exclusively found in the northern arctic regions.
Bonus fact: Antarctica means "land with no bears" because it's on the opposite side of the world and you can't see the constellations there. Also by coincidence, Antarctica has no bears.
