Maybe because in general we aren't as concerned with what's socially acceptable to be interested in (things like theatre, pop music, Disney, sucking dick and cooking) so we don't have the same "I'm too much of a ~man~ to be playing a kids game" that heteros seem to get when they turn 13.
It definitely isn't husbando baiting because there's only a handful of human characters and even fewer Pokémon compared to the ridiculous amount of waifu bait
