Pokémon didn't invent cacti or spiders or dragons or werewolves or beetles. They were enemies in RPGs long before Pokémon and continue to be long after.
In fact I'd argue that Digimon has more designs that don't seem to be based on anything specific than Pokémon does. I mean what the fuck even is Gabumon? Like a lizard with a wolf pelt but he walks upright and evolves into an actual wolf? And then Terriermon that's like, I don't even know, a rabbit dog thing with a horn? And evolves into a fat fucker with machine guns and pants. What the hell is that inspired by?
