I guess other characters in this case are the

That's why the Johto rival is called シルバー (Silver), as it fits the naming scheme of the rival from Generation I. But now that the protagonist is no longer Gold, wouldn't the rival no longer be Silver? And Red and Green were referred to as サトシ (Satoshi; Ash) and シゲル (Shigeru; Gary) early on, which might mean that the protagonist and rival of Gold and Silver had their second default names planned in the same way. That would make the Gen II protagonist ヒロキ (Hiroki; Hiro) and rival カモン (Kamon).
It would be interesting if they made a figure of his Generation II appearance with a different name.
