Why did they even bother with this thing? They filled the Pikaclone slot in a new and interesting way with Mimikyu and gave Raichu a fresh coat of paint. Was Sonichu really necessary?

Marketing, ever since Gen 4, one of Ash's companions in the anime has owned a Pikaclone. They're companions for Pikachu. Togedemaru for instance, is Pikachu's crazed fangirl.

And Mimikyu does not count as a Pikacone.
