Getting a distribution of some sort is basically the main point of them being a yearly happening, but since that doesn't translate well for "Literally anywhere but Japan" we just get stuck with FUCKING GAMESTOP distributions and the like.

Conceptually it's bad in terms of ingame lore. However, I don't really mind their existence as long as they eventually get a non-limited release, even if it's years later. The Delta Episode was a great move in that regard, and I hope there's eventually one for all mythicals.

While it can sometimes be annoying, I kind of like the rare, hard-to-get quality they have. It reminds of bug catching when you're trying to find that one rare butterfly or whatever. Mythicals in concept are meant to have questionable existences anyway, so being event only ties into that pretty well or something. I don't fucking know.

They were never originally meant to be a thing, anyway. The whole Mew incident showed them that there was a genuine interest in the concept, and they've milked it for all its worth ever since. In other words...WE, the players, created Mythicals and event 'mons simply by showing them that we wanted them; now they're a staple of the series, like it or not.

It was a cool gimmick for the time when trading between versions and in-person events were an interesting concept.

In 2017 with everyone having internet access for trading online it has become annoying and nobody even cares anymore. Try asking a casual fan who are the mythics after Jirachi and I bet they can't even name them.

Also, availabitity being a limitation to use them competitively is stupid and works against the VCG system.

It was a great concept back then, but like with many other pokemon gimmicks, they need to move on and adapt to the times.

A good portion of my events are from gen 5 distributions. I missed Jirachi during the 20th anniversary because I stopped playing for a few months. I also missed Darkrai and Manaphy but had them from earlier events.

The idea itself is fine (albeit a bit outdated since the gameboy days), it's just that they put 0 effort into it. Since they don't get in-game lore the movies should be there to provide backstory (and sell movie tickets of course), but of course the problems are
1. The movies aren't "canon", and even if you want to believe the provided backstory for the mythical is
2. A lot of the time the movie doesn't even really tell you anything about them
3. Most of the movies are trash

i think not being able to get stuff period is a real shame so i usually do that after a game has been out for a year or two

but im not a fan of editing natures or IVs or that sort of thing, just speaking from a completionist standpoint
