They took GSC's amazing music and shoehorned a bunch of unnecessary shit into most of the tracks, and transformed others into something completely different from the originals. FRLG and ORAS got it right by simply updating the originals with higher quality samples for the most part. This is also why the Sevii Island Johto music is better than the HGSS renditions.
As an aside, DP remakes may actually be better off with the music done like HGSS, as jazz lends itself well to that style of arrangement.
