You can be told "DIPSHIT wants to trade with you!" while you're in the middle of a battle. You can easily see your friends, people you've traded with, and passerbys at a glance. You can give out O-Powers to strangers and friends, be given O-Powers, send out messages advertising what you have or want, or just saying what you're doing so people can send you hatching powers. You can even just do plain voice chat, which isn't worth much,
but it was how I talked to my girlfriend when we met as kids, because she wasn't allowed to use the phoneNow, you have to scroll through a text list, with friends and strangers alike mixed together. You have to stop everything you're doing to idle away in a boring circle that important features are locked behind.
