- tons of dungeons
- 2 freakin' regions,16 badges, rematchable gym leaders.
- Neat side stuff (Battle frontier, Pokéathlon)
- Pokéwalker was a nice, yet gimmicky addition.
- Daily events all over the place.
- back in gen 2's original release, they introduced breeding, day/night cycles, daily events, held items, berries,2 new types, first female playable character, first true sequels, first online playability utterances (jap only), they objectively introduced many stapple features of what we have in the franchise nowadays.
Cons:
- Sloppy story (as if GF is good at that)
- Problems with the level curve and overall challenge of mpst johto gym leaders.
- many new pokémon where utterly useless competitively.
- evolutionary items such as stones where very hard to find (later fixed in Crystal and remakes).
- Way too many HMs.
- Gimmick failures due to programming, such as most appricorn balls not functioning the way they are supposed to or dragon fang evolving seadra instead of dragon scale, to mention a few.
-some new mons available on post game, like murkrow and houndour.
- remakes introduced one of the worst friendly rivals to date... Such a pain in the ass.
And yet, along with BW, they are the best pokémon games ever made.
