I've seen people like certain clown figures despite their fears. The Puddles Pity Party situation in AGT is one of them (Simon has or had this fear as well). I assume your case to be a similar matter (grown scared of sea lion clown concept at first probably, but then saw interpretations of it being nicer).
Not weird at all, it's actually kind of brave.
