Is it worth picking up if I know minimal knowledge of Monster Hunter? I had been meaning to get into the series and picked up a used copy of whichever one was on the Wii U, but I couldn't see the text on the screen I was using, but I know this is pretty different anyway. Would it be a good intro to the world, if not the main games?

Definitely. Only briefly played MH3 and MH4U, but I had a blast with the demo.

This game has such bizarre performance issues. Playing it on N3ds, and majority of the time it feels like 40 - 60 fps, even in combat, but randomly in certain overworld areas it dips really low.

oh my god, i have an O3DS and this sounds like it's gonna be worse than SM 2vs2 battles...

Both those monsters aren't in the demo, they are the Deviljho and Brachydios, two powerful monsters that are pretty popular.

Actually the demo has 5 monsters, there is a Tier-2 Blue Kut Ku subspecies you can get in the demo. Look for rare monster caves.

It's pretty different, I'd honestly say it's closer to Dragon Quest Monsters than Pokemon.

And since fucking Square won't give us DQM because we totally needed the shitfest that was FF XV, it's a nice alternative.
