Two days ago I collected the most popular and overused Fakemon ideas and made a whole dex of them. I'm having trouble with the names, though. Could you help me?

Well, ghost owl, tiger, sirene, woodpecker, toucan, yeti crab, wolf, donkey, diving bell spider, red panda, orangutan, lemur, isopod, sand castle, arceus knock off, koala, mata mata, anchor, mosquito cockroach and orgiami would all be on the list if it weren't for the last gen. There were all popular until they got Pokemon equivalents.

This is basically Hipster: The thread. If the concept can't be found among the canon species, then it's open reign, and if what you have is similar to what someone else has done, then you credit them for inspiration or that they did it first, but writing off a concept altogether just because it's mainstream? Where was it ever mentioned that we don't want these or that we wrote them off? Just look at >>33320654 how many ideas were mainstream before eventually became a Pokémon just a year ago. I've seen my share of threads before made just to show their disdain for these concepts, so pardon if that experience affected my impression for this one. Still, by compiling a list, you're essentially telling potential designers that "this is overdone, don't bother with it", even if they would have their own take on it.

These are all good concepts so it would be hard to find anyone who hates even just 25% of these ideas. I'm not trying to discourage new designers but I think this is a good way of showing what is already out there. It's an open market, come up with something new and you'll succeed, create something that is out there and stay in oblivion. Let's be honest here if a designer is good and mixes these ideas up just a little bit, they will get credit for it.

Just look at Pokémon itself, dozens of anchor, helm and ghost ship Pokémon but GF decided to make a seaweed that connects two of these items while giving it a 3rd STAB. Not huge but definitely distinctive and fresh. Same with the Ultra Bugs, mosquito sucks and cockroach survives, yet they made a huge mosquito that has muscles and a very fast, feminine white cockroach. All fresh ideas.

Yes, I wanted that too but I made it evolve into a Dunkleosteus and everybody wants that as a water type. I don't want three different aquatic rock fish lines. I could still do it, Rock/Poison evolving into Rock/Water bothers me , though.

Also making the mermaid Ice instead of Water is pretty original, I understand that you did it to make the dex more balanced, but I think that should be secondary to actually showing off said cliches.

I don't think the flying fish is inteded to be part of the swordfish/marlin line.
Bearded dragon actually showcases three different lizards that are commonly used for this stereotype.
The peacock is a split evo I believe.

Some like the gargoyle, gorgon, snapping turtle and kangaroo could go down a stage though.

I think typing give them away neatly. Moose is split evo. Manticore is a fusion gimmick. Ground shark is a split evo. Termites are a family but don't evolve. Octopi are one family. Peacocks are one family. Dolphin and Pony lines are branched.

OK. I added different mermaid forms and an electric stingray evolution to Niblet. We have plenty of Jellyfish in the maingame so I don't want to add ne. The vampire squid also behaves similarly.
