Why is there still no romance option in Pokemon? The tiny smidgen we got of it in B2W2 was good, why not expand on it?

I mean more in regards to story, IE in XY the ultimate weapon, and how it was made kid friendly. I wanted to see the effects of its use, the ramifications. I want a more adult game in the sense of being realistic

That sounds cringey as fuck. I'd rather the love interest be the rival. How you talk to them determines how much or little they take to you.
For an added kick in the pants, if they love you, they don't fight as hard and you don't get as much exp from the rival fights. Plus they're typed weaker to you. If they hate you, they have type and level advantage.

They don't want the human characters overtaking the Pokemon, otherwise why even call it Pokemon? It's just another JRPG at that point.

I always thought it'd be cool to gain one of several possible permanent partners in the game, and have them help you with healing, team battles, suggesting what to do next, teamwork puzzles, etc.

They'd be of either gender, and the game would give you the sense that they had an increasing amount of comradery with the PC, but nothing more than that. Of course, it's up to the player's imagination exactly how far they want the two to go.
