As much as I like tropius, a mon symbolizing gold or treasure would be more fitting, like shiny sableye. Any of the golden steel or rock type shinies (like steelix or klefki) serve a similar function.
Doublade could work as a cutlass.
Malamar or tentacruel could make a fine kraken, and barbaracle is a barnacle (keelhauling) but you're pretty strapped for teamslots as it is.
The whole chatot thing has merit, but toucannon fits a similar role visually (exotic bird) while also having a cannon thing going on.
