Why is Alolan Vulpix so much more popular than the original? Original Vulpix was never that popular, but Alolan Vulpix has gotten lots of popularity and merchandise ever since it became Lillie's first Pokemon.

Ice Vulpix is just more cute, it really looks like some sort of snow magical creature whereas fire vulpix looks just like a bit more fancy but still farly simple fox

Alolan vulpix has been cuteified (bigger head, eyes, softer cuter features) and heavily shilled. Just take a look at the official art comparisons and you can see why it's more widely marketable.
They wanted a cute fox for gen 7 to shill to girls, so this is what they manufactured. They were very successful.
