Gen 3 had the perfect graphics. If only they had stuck to this kind of graphics and improved on them instead of going with that abomination they call 3D...

They're pretty good, IMO. Gens 1 and 2 have primitive graphics that culminate in Gen 3's great balance, Gen 4 and 5 start adding in lowkey, shitty 3D and feel blurry, and then we get the 3D abominations of gen 6 and 7. Just my two cents anyway, you're free to disagree.

I'm more of a sprite guy myself, and I liked seeing the new sprites for old mons on sprite games.

But they had to go 3D at some point so I don;t mind them doing that.

Gen 2 looks better aesthetically to me. Gen 3 has garish colors and some of the ugliest sprites in the franchise.

It's a shame that gen II is the only gen with different sprites for each pokemon in the main pair of games.

Gen3's palette rapes my eyes to this day.
I'd say gen2 has the perfect palette and art-style but I'm probably nostalgiafagging so my following choice is gen4 since it has perfectly vivid colors.

Gen 3's sprites are fine. I say Gen 4 probably did the Sprites the best, but sprites in general just can't hold a candle to the models mostly because models can convey expressions through facials and body language. This is what irritated me about Sun/Moon is how blank they made the protagonist. ORAS at least gave their's an >:( face.

Best engine. Not graphics. B2W2 or Pokemon Ranger games have ideal graphics. B2W2 just needs a lot more touching up and so it isn't so coarse looking in some areas like Castelia City.

I feel the same, but I'm a nostalgiafag about it. FRLG look amazing in that cutesy-pastel sprite style. And despite how unrealistic it is to have those cold-ass teal grass tiles for a tropical island, RSE's graphics look beautiful to me. Gen 2 is eye-raping.
