Despite how many memes anons like to spout about mons looking like "literally my mom's thing", this doesn't automatically make a mon bad. Sometimes sticking to your real-life animal inspiration is for the better if you as a designer can't think of a design that has both an original biology AND good-looking.

It does look well on ekans, to put an example, but it doesn't look well on raikou at all. Those clouds on its back could be the same color as its tail and mask (maybe darker, maybe not) and it'd look better simply because purple in this case doesn't look integral to the rest of its body, it only further makes it look like an slapped-on detail instead of softening the contrast. A color combination can't fix a bad design on its own, no matter how good said color combination said is supposed to be.
